Ocean Prime, Phoenix
In honor of National Oyster Day, Saturday, August 5th, we thought this was the perfect time for an Oyster Bar round-up. We’ve also included a few of the National Oyster Day specials.
Phoenix may be in the desert, but there are quite a few places where you can slurp amazingly fresh and tasty oysters. Most places on my list offer several varieties. Ask your server for advice on the different taste profiles or order a few of each to decide for yourself.
Tucked in the rear of The Yard in central Phoenix is Little Cleo’s. Cocktails, small plates, and entrees, this restaurant focuses on high-quality fresh seafood. Largest selection of Absinthe I’ve seen in town (that unusual spirit that was rumored to make you go crazy and has only been legal in the US since 2007). I love their happy hour which always includes one oyster variety for $1, Monday – Saturday 4 pm – 7 pm.
National Oyster Day special – $1 oyster all day from 11 am – 11 pm. They’ve extended their hours just for National Oyster Day. Happy hour will be available 4-6.
High Street (N. Phoenix)
Another favorite of mine for seafood and an awesome happy hour. Ocean Prime is located in High Street in North Phoenix just east of Desert Ridge Marketpace. The North Phoenix area isn’t as well populated with amazing restaurants, bars and happy hours so those of us who live in the NW Phoenix area, frequent the few such as Ocean Prime quite often.
National Oyster Day special – Ocean Prime Phoenix is bringing in a special Pemaquid Oyster just for the day. This oyster, also known as the ‘Cadillac of oysters’ will be available for $22/dozen.
Buck and Rider
I frequent Buck and Rider’s Abby’s Oyster Bar. This is the bar located inside the restaurants – they have an awesome happy hour only available at the bar weekdays – 7 pm. The happy hour menu is updated daily on the board and always includes a few dishes from the bar menu for $8. Cocktails are $7 (you’ll find me enjoying ‘Your Money or Your Life’ or the Deigo Riviera. And of course, an excellent selection of fresh oysters shucked right at the bar.
National Oyster Day Special – 50% off all oysters, all day in the entire restaurant.
Just off Mill Avenue in Tempe near ASU, this popular bar is known for their oysters. This is actually the first place I had oysters.
What pairs well with oysters? Bloody Marys I think are an awesome combination.
