Blue Hound Welcomes New Mixologist, Phil Clark

By: Dana Vollmer

Blue Hound's mixologist Phil Clark

Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails is one of my favorite places for cocktails in downtown Phoenix.  They change up the menu a few times a year, but there’s always a perfect whiskey cocktail on the menu. I also love that they have some classics and then a few for the more adventurous drinker. I usually let the bartender pick for me, and they never go wrong.

Love the decor and vibe of the place too – slightly modern yet warm interior. The blue hound mascot just makes me smile (and so instagrammable too!).

Blue Hound is located downtown adjacent to CityScape inside the Palomar Hotel making it a great destination for a night out downtown before a show, after bowling or just a night of cocktails.

Earlier this year Phil Clark took over as lead bartender at Blue Hound. New to town, he moved from Washington, DC. With a new mixologist on board, a new menu has been released and I was excited to experience what Clark had created. Definitely some new and innovative tastes for the menu but still keeping with the Blue Hound style that I’ve come to love. And a few classics are still available including my favorite, The Lawless.

A few highlights of the new cocktail menu

Blue Hound Cocktails Billionaire

Billionaire – Old Grandad Bonded Bourbon, Grand Marnier, lemon, hibiscus, gold dust

One of my favorites of the new menu. A more elegant bourbon cocktail with the Grand Marnier and the painted gold dust on the glass.

The Machinist – Blue Hound select barrel proof Knob Creek Bourbon, maple, maraschino, Angostura bitters, Regan’s orange bitters.

How about that glass? just stunning. The drink is too. My other favorite of the new menu.

Blue Hound Black Pepper Pink Melon

Black Pepper Pink Melon – Pepper-infused Ketel One Vodka, St Germaine, lime cordial, watermelon ice

This one was quite nice. Refreshing on a hot Arizona day. Lightly sweet with a bit of pepper spice.

Bobo Tea – Black tea infused Titos Vodka, chai vermouth, coconut milk, tapioca pearls, nutmeg

Definitely unique cocktail here. Boba Tea with vodka. And the blowtorch is pulled out for this one as it is served with a smoking cinnamon stick.

Hungry? Want some nibbles to enjoy with your cocktails? My picks – Shishito Peppers, Corn Grit Fries, and BHKC Deviled Eggs (with bacon jam…bacon, yes!). Those fries….those were soooo good! need a trip back soon
