Derby Day is almost here. While we don’t live in Kentucky, you can still join in the festivities for the 144th run of the horses.
Horses. Hats. Mint Juleps. Sweet Tea.
I’ve rounded up a few of my top picks around town to celebrate Derby Day this Saturday, May 5th.
Kentucky Derby Lawn Party at the Princess
A tradition for many as this party has been held for years and The Fairmont Scottsdale, the Princess, ALWAYS does everything with absolute perfection. The party is host by Bourbon Steak…because the Derby means Mint Juleps of course. Feast on a southern-style lunch featuring Kentucky Derby hot browns, fried chicken, Benedictine dip, pickled shrimp toast, fried oysters, Andouille, buttermilk pie, red velvet cupcakes, and derby pies. Mint Juleps and Bourbon tastings. Lawn games. Tickets are $109 and can be reserved are required by calling 480.585.2694.

Turf Paradise
One of the biggest parties in town is at Turf Paradise. Turf Paradise is offering 4 different buffet options – Top of the Park, Turf Club Buffet, Clubhouse Buffet, and Players Club. There are options to reserve table or barstool in the Party on the Rail section to get up close to the action and excitement of the day. Hats, of course – there will be hat contest so wear your best! The Grandstand is $5 admission with seats being first come, first serve.

Southern Rail’s Kentucky Derby Viewing Party
My favorite Southern restaurant, Southern Rail, in town is hosting a Kentucky Derby Party. Watch the race or enter their contest for best women’s hat, best man’s hat, and overall best dress. Reservations recommended, 602-200-0085.
